Resources for New Xojo Users

If you are new to Xojo I have a couple of resources you might find helpful. First, I have a 5800 word review of Xojo from a long-time Real Studio users perspective at http://www.bkeeneybriefs.com/2013/06/xojo-2013-release-1/.

Second, I have a 40 minute video walking through the Xojo IDE at http://www.bkeeney.com/XojoTraining/xojotraining.cgi?video=318. I am slowly adding Xojo specific videos to the training app (only about 1.5 hours now). Free registration required to view non-subscription videos.

Okay, there is a bug in the forum software. Copy the text from the link (not the link data) and paste in your browser.

Expected behavior - not a bug. My bad. Here it is as it is supposed to be. I LOVE learning new software!

Bob, care to share what you did wrong?

Oh, I hit the link expecting it to work like the phpBB forums where it just takes whatever text you have selected AS the link URL. It does not. It defaults to the example.com URL. Annoying but now that I know about it, it won’t happen again.

Ah. Actually, if you don’t need a word or phrase to be a link, but just want the URL to be shown as is, then you don’t need to mess with the link function. Just type/paste the link as is. The forum software will automatically make it a link. The link function is so you can make some regular text into a link.

Same goes with Feedback links. For all those new users that have joined us here since the launch, you can paste the link for a case that you get from Feedback into a message here and it will automatically convert it to a link and set the text to “Feedback Case #xxxxx”.

And while I’m at it, a couple more tips: ascii emoticons are converted into graphical versions, and you can preview your message before sending using the Preview checkbox (and you have to uncheck it if you want to continue composing/editing the message).

Awesome thanks Bob… I cant wait to see your new XOJO vidoes; I did all your RS ones, nd now I need more from you. Hopefully you will get them out soon

Thanks Bob, the 02.0 Xojo Introduction saved me fumbling around
