When you just *know* that most of the stuff on your hard drive is rubbish., but your filling system is so anarchic that you can't work out which bits to get rid of. Well, you think you know, but you're not sure enough to actually do it. You know, just in case...

Companies who say their program is cross-platform because it supports Windows 7, 8 and 10.

  8. Having to explain my "cross platform solution" joke to British Rail (as it was then) when I created a prototype inter-platform comms system.

Working a few hours on a macOS framework implementation, wondering what the hell made you write methods that clearly are not there … and then realizing you mixed up two classes when you got lost in Apple’s naming scheme :(

As funny as this sounds... I was once in a teleconference meeting where one group was from Russia, another from China, and myself. The meeting was held in English because all parties knew how to speak the language. Unfortunately, the heavy accents made it difficult/almost impossible for the Russian participants to understand Chinese-english, and vice-versa. Both parties could understand my Canadian English and I could understand their English.

This meeting ended up with me being -literally- an English-to-English converter...

At one time I worked on a team with three Chinese ladies. While they all spoke English, two of them had to go through the third if they wanted to speak Chinese. One spoke Mandarin, one spoke Cantonese, while the third spoke both dialects.
